On Tuesday, July 4th Rosedale sent
equipment to 3 local parades and fireworks displays. The day
started with a trip to the Dundalk parade, immediately followed by the
Kingsville parade, and ended with the fireworks in Overlea/Fullerton.
The day went well, with the exception of the heat and some minor
mechanical difficulties.
Early in the morning, members
assisted with washing the equipment to get it "Parade Ready".
Tragically, E282's trip to the Dundalk parade ended early when both
alternator belts broke near the Baltimore City Fire Academy. SU283
(Pearson) and B286(Castle) attended the Dundalk parade. SU283
towed Captain Barry's 1906 hose cart full of 3" hose. During this
time Captain Barry was making repairs to E282 to get it back in service
for Kingsville's parade.
Immediately following the Dundalk
parade, all units traveled over to Kingsville for their annual parade.
E282 (Chronowski) made it all the way this time, without losing any
belts! The parade was a success, with E282 receiving 2nd Best
Appearing Engine Company. It was B286 (Vernon) that was left for
dead this time, stalling in the middle of the parade due to vapor lock
in the fuel lines. FF Vernon managed to get back into the parade
and finish the route after letting the vehicle cool in a driveway.
After the Kingsville parade, a
cookout was held at the Rosedale firehouse and units were readied once
again for the Fullerton fireworks. Rosedale attends this fireworks
display every year to show support for the community and to provide fire
protection/EMS in the immediate area of the show. Throughout the
detail E282 (DW Potts) and M285 (Rock) remained in-service to take
calls. E282 took 2 calls during the night (apartment fire in a 12
box and a mulch fire in a 16 box). M285 attended to a couple
injuries that occurred to patrons at the event. U287 (Harding)
responded at 1st-responder to an assault in an 8 box. The fireworks
display went off without a hitch and after the crowd had cleared RVFC
members performed a walk-through of the grounds and placed all equipment
back in service.
Units: E281, E282, SU283, B286,
B284, M285.
